The head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, Alhaji Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, has praised the leadership qualities of the Inspector- General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare, describing him as the best the country has ever had.
Speaking at the 91st Annual Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana, which was attended by members of the Police Management Board on Wednesday, Alhaji Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih said the changes and efficiency taking place in the Police Service since Dr Dampare took over were remarkable and evident to all.
He said the IGP had shown a high level of professionalism, integrity, and competence in his role, and had restored public confidence and trust in the police force.
He cited the swift and successful handling of recent high-profile cases, such as the murder of a pregnant woman and her two children in Jirapa-Dubai, the arrest of a notorious armed robber known as “Zero”, and the foiling of a planned coup d’etat by some disgruntled soldiers, as examples of the IGP’s achievements.
He also commended the IGP for his efforts to improve the welfare and morale of the police personnel, as well as his initiatives to enhance community policing and public relations.
Alhaji Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih said the IGP was a blessing to Ghana and a role model for other leaders in society. He urged Ghanaians to support and protect him from any individuals or groups who would seek to undermine or sabotage him and his contributions to the nation.
He said the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana had a cordial and fruitful relationship with the Police Service, and was ready to collaborate with them in promoting peace and security in the country.
He also appealed to the political class to support the police service in their ongoing transformational drive, and to refrain from any acts that could jeopardize the stability and unity of the nation.
He said the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana was committed to the principles of tolerance, harmony, and service to humanity, and would continue to work with other religious bodies and stakeholders to advance the common good of the nation.
He expressed his gratitude to the members of the Police Management Board for honouring the invitation to attend the convention, and prayed for Allah’s blessings and guidance on them and their work.
The IGP, in his response, thanked the Ahmadiyya Muslim leader for his kind words and prayers, and assured him of the police service’s readiness to partner with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana in ensuring law and order in the country.
He said the police service was undergoing a comprehensive reform process, aimed at improving its capacity, professionalism, and accountability. He said the police service was also working hard to combat crime and violence, and to protect the lives and property of the citizens.
He said the police service was grateful for the support and cooperation of the public, especially the religious groups, and appealed for more information and feedback from them to enhance their operations.
He said the police service respected the rights and freedoms of all religious groups, and would not discriminate or harass anyone on the basis of their faith. He said the police service was also committed to ensuring a peaceful and credible election in 2024, and urged all political parties and actors to abide by the rules and regulations governing the electoral process.
He said the police service was honoured to be part of the 91st Annual Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana, and congratulated them for their achievements and contributions to the nation. He said the police service looked forward to more interactions and engagements with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana in the future.
The 91st Annual Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana, which began on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, and ended on Thursday, February 22, 2024, was held under the theme: “The Role of Religion in National Development”. The convention brought together thousands of Ahmadi Muslims from across the country and beyond, as well as representatives from other religious groups and civil society organizations.
The convention featured various activities, such as prayers, lectures, discussions, exhibitions, and social services. The convention also witnessed the presentation of awards to some distinguished personalities and institutions for their outstanding performance and service to the nation.
The convention was graced by the presence of the Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who delivered a keynote address on behalf of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The Vice President lauded the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana for their role in promoting peace, tolerance, and development in the country, and assured them of the government’s support and collaboration.
The convention was also attended by other dignitaries, such as the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Bagbin, the Chief Justice, Mr Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt Gen Obed Boamah Akwa, the Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, and the National Chief Imam of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana, Maulvi Abdul Wahab Adam.
The convention ended on a note of hope and optimism, as the participants prayed for the peace and prosperity of Ghana and the world at large.
