Ridge Hospital Faces ECG Disconnection

by Motoni Olodun

Accra, Ghana – The Ridge Hospital is on the brink of disconnection from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) due to an outstanding debt of GHC 42 million. The looming threat of power disconnection has raised concerns about the hospital’s ability to provide essential medical services to patients.

According to ECG officials, the hospital has been given a three-day ultimatum to settle the outstanding debt, failing which its electricity supply will be disconnected. The sizable debt has accumulated over an extended period, exacerbating the financial strain on the hospital’s operations.

The prospect of power disconnection poses a significant challenge for Ridge Hospital, which relies on uninterrupted electricity supply to power critical medical equipment and maintain essential services. Any disruption to power supply could jeopardize patient care and compromise the hospital’s ability to respond to medical emergencies.

The situation underscores broader challenges facing Ghana’s healthcare system, including inadequate funding and financial management issues. Hospitals across the country grapple with mounting debts and resource constraints, hindering their ability to deliver quality healthcare services to the population.

Efforts to address the hospital’s debt situation are underway, with stakeholders engaging in negotiations to find a resolution. However, the urgency of the situation necessitates swift action to prevent the disruption of vital healthcare services.

Despite the current challenges, there is optimism that a solution can be reached to avert the disconnection and ensure uninterrupted healthcare delivery at Ridge Hospital. Collaborative efforts between the hospital management, government authorities, and utility providers are essential to resolving the debt issue and safeguarding patient care.

As Ghana works towards strengthening its healthcare infrastructure and improving access to quality medical services, addressing financial challenges like the Ridge Hospital debt is critical to building a resilient healthcare system that serves the needs of all citizens.
