Key points

  • Government reviewing dismissed workers’ cases through a revocation committee.

  • Only appointments made with due process will be reinstated.

  • Minister dismisses claims of bias, says rules must guide recruitment.

The government says it will bring back some public sector workers whose jobs were canceled after the 2024 elections, but only if they were hired through proper procedures.

Minister of State for Government Communication Felix Kwakye Ofosu said Tuesday that the administration has created a revocation committee, led by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, to review each case.

“As I speak to you, the committee is checking all the cases on their merits,” Kwakye Ofosu said on Joy FM’s Top Story.

“If due process was ignored, the dismissal will remain. If it was followed, those workers will return.”

Dispute over late appointments

The controversy began after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) took power. It canceled several civil service appointments made by the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to officials, the NPP rushed last-minute appointments without following recruitment rules.

That decision triggered public criticism. Many accused President John Dramani Mahama’s government of removing NPP-linked workers to create space for its own supporters.

Kwakye Ofosu rejected the claim. “The fact that they are affiliated with NPP is not an issue,” he said.

“We are a country governed by rules. You cannot bypass the process and tilt the system unfairly.”

Committee to decide each case

The revocation committee will examine every file. Workers who were properly hired will return to their jobs. Those who were not will stay out.

Kwakye Ofosu added that the government’s main goal is to keep the civil service fair and professional, rather than partisan.

He also stressed that clear rules must guide all public appointments going forward.
