Paul Kwabena Yandoh, the former Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, says Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, shares a cell with about 50 inmates at Nsawam Prison, where he is serving a jail term.
Yandoh made the claim in a video shared on X on Oct. 14, 2026. He described himself as a close associate who has been visiting Wontumi in jail, and he rejected social media rumors that the former Ashanti Regional Chairman sleeps in a special room or receives different treatment.
“What you have heard is totally different from what I have seen,” he said.
Half a student mattress
According to Yandoh, Wontumi sleeps on a student mattress and gets only half of it. “Who says if you are politically inclined, you will be treated differently?” he asked.
“Get into trouble and see, and you will know the kind of instructions you will follow when you get there,” he added.
The account comes from Yandoh alone. The Ghana Prisons Service has not been quoted, so the claims remain unverified. Meanwhile, Wontumi has pleaded not guilty to five charges in a GH¢30 million Exim Bank case.
