Prior to Election 2024, the Electoral Commission (EC) expressed interest in speaking with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) about their concerns with voter registration.Â
The Election Commission said in a news release that “our doors remain open” for additional interaction following the countrywide demonstration on Tuesday that was coordinated by the NDC in support of a request for an impartial forensic assessment of the register.
EC reassures the public of transparent election preparations
“The Commission is mindful that the Voters Register is the bedrock of credible, fair, and transparent Elections,” read the statement, which was signed by Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman in charge of operations.
We reassure the NDC and all interested parties of our pledge to provide a reliable and comprehensive Final Register in time for the December 2024 elections.”
It promised that the process of creating the Final Register is still in its early stages and stated that the Commission will study the petition and respond in the next few days.
NDC petitions for forensic audit after national protest
According to a report by Graphic Online, The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has filed a petition with the Electoral Commission following their demonstration on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
In the upcoming days, the Commission will examine the petition and respond. The General Public is to be reassured by the Commission that the process of creating the Final Register is only getting started.
The Voters Register is the cornerstone of legitimate, equitable, and transparent elections, and the Commission is aware of this.
