The First Lady of Ghana, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has lauded the SOS Children’s Villages for their pivotal role as a source of hope, compassion, and positive change for numerous children in need of care and protection. Throughout the past fifty years, SOS Children’s Villages in Ghana have been instrumental in shaping the child welfare landscape, guided by the principles of love, respect, and the provision of a secure family environment for children who lack such foundations. Mrs. Akufo-Addo highlighted these contributions during the inauguration of the organization’s 50th anniversary celebrations in Tema, where the anniversary logo was also unveiled. The anniversary, under the theme “SOS Children’s Villages: Celebrating 50 Years of Transforming Lives in Ghana,” aims to honor the achievements of the organization over half a century.
The celebration seeks to bring together stakeholders, community members, and potential donors through various activities, including parades, open days, sports competitions, and a national conference on alternative care in Ghana. These events are designed to foster engagement and support for the continued provision of quality care to children benefiting from the organization’s services.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo, serving as a patron of SOS Children’s Villages in Ghana, commended the organization for its significant impact on local communities and its role in promoting positive change. She praised the flagship community intervention programs that strengthen families and support children’s holistic development, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi (Bola Ray), a brand ambassador for SOS Children’s Villages in Ghana, emphasized the profound impact the organization has had on children’s lives over the past 50 years and called for increased support from corporate bodies and individuals.
Alexander Mar Kekula, the National Director of SOS Children’s Villages in Ghana, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to building families for children in need, aiding them in shaping their futures, and contributing to community development. The Golden Jubilee logo symbolizes SOS Children’s Villages Ghana’s enduring commitment to protecting and supporting the nation’s children, highlighting a legacy of transformation and care.
Additionally, Yves Hanson-Nortey, Member of Parliament for Tema Central and an alumnus of the SOS – Hermann Gmeiner School, reflected on SOS’s extensive history of providing a nurturing home for children at risk of losing parental care and its role in developing future community leaders with a strong sense of integrity.
