As Ghana prepares for its general elections on December 7, 2023, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ho Central Constituency, Mr. Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, has pledged to complete all the abandoned projects initiated by the previous NDC administration.
Mr. Kpotosu, who is a deputy director of the Volta Region Ghana Education Service, said he was confident of retaining the seat for the NDC, which has been held by the outgoing MP, Hon. Benjamin Kpodo, for three consecutive terms.
He made these remarks at a campaign rally in Ho, the regional capital, where he was joined by the NDC flagbearer, former President John Mahama, and other party officials.
Unfinished Business
Mr. Kpotosu accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of neglecting the development needs of the Ho Central Constituency, which comprises 21 paramountcies and covers the Ho municipality and parts of the Ho West and Adaklu districts.
He cited some of the projects that have been stalled or abandoned by the NPP government, such as the Ho Barracks-Kpenõe-Takla-Hodzo-Tokokoe road, the Ziavi-Anfoeta road, the asphalting of Ho township roads, and the expansion of the Ho Technical University and the University of Health and Allied Sciences.
“These are projects that were started by the NDC under the visionary leadership of President Mahama but have been left to rot by the NPP. We will not allow this to continue. We will complete these projects and bring more development to our constituency,” he said.
He also promised to improve the quality of education, health, agriculture, and sanitation in the area, and to empower the youth and women with skills and opportunities.
A Vote for Change
Mr. Kpotosu urged the electorate to vote massively for him and the NDC presidential candidate, saying they have the experience and the track record to deliver on their promises.
He said the NDC has a manifesto that addresses the needs and aspirations of the people, and that it is committed to creating a prosperous, peaceful, and inclusive Ghana.
He also appealed to the supporters of the NDC to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid any acts of violence or intimidation before, during, and after the elections.
He said the NDC believes in the rule of law and the integrity of the electoral process, and that it will accept the outcome of the polls if they are free and fair.
A Better Alternative
Former President Mahama, who addressed the rally, said the NDC is offering a better alternative to the NPP, which he accused of mismanaging the economy, increasing corruption, and failing to fulfill its campaign promises.
He said the NPP has plunged the country into debt, increased taxes, and imposed hardship on the people, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said the NDC has a plan to revive the economy, create jobs, provide free primary health care, expand access to education, and implement a $10 billion infrastructure program.
He also said the NDC will restore the dignity and respect of the Volta Region, which he said has been marginalized and discriminated against by the NPP.
He thanked the people of Ho Central for their loyalty and support for the NDC and urged them to vote for Mr. Kpotosu and himself to bring back the good days of the NDC.
