Botwe Calls for Active Voter Engagement in Ghana’s District Elections

Ghana’s Local Government Minister Stresses Democratic Involvement in Local Governance

by Adenike Adeodun

Dan Kweku Botwe, the Minister of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, has called on the electorate to actively engage in the upcoming district-level elections. Addressing the people of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, Botwe, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Okere from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), emphasized the importance of community involvement in local governance for development.

During his visit, Botwe, along with Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong and others, inspected the Secondary City Projects in the municipality. He encouraged the people of Manya Krobo to participate in the assembly elections and choose representatives who would effectively serve their interests.

According to a report by the Daily Graphic, Botwe highlighted that democracy hinges on the people’s involvement in governance, from homes to communities. “Your involvement determines the quality of leadership in your electoral areas. I advise you to participate in this December’s assembly elections to elect leaders you trust,” he stated.

Regarding the Secondary City Projects, Botwe assured that funding from the World Bank’s Urban Development Grant ensures timely payment to contractors upon project completion.

Simon Kweku Tetteh, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Chief Executive, reflected on his seven-year tenure, noting the completion of over 100 projects in the area. “My track record and your trust have granted me another opportunity to serve come January 2024,” he said. Tetteh, recently elected as the NPP parliamentary candidate for the constituency, expressed gratitude for the confidence shown in him by the delegates and residents of Lower Manya Krobo.
