Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), met with Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari Gariba II at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, urging Dagbon residents to reject divisive tactics from opposition parties.

With tensions surrounding the upcoming December 7 elections, Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized the importance of unity and called for Yaa Naa’s prayers for a peaceful electoral process.

The high-stakes political climate, he noted, requires cooperation and unity among Ghanaians. He reassured the Yaa Naa of the NPP’s commitment to respecting chieftaincy institutions as part of their focus on nation-building.

NPP’s respect for chieftaincy and inclusivity

During their conversation, Dr. Opoku Prempeh shared the NPP’s historical ties to inclusivity, highlighting how the party’s foundation was supported by chiefs from across Ghana.

The NPP, he said, values traditional leadership, with both he and Dr. Bawumia dedicated to bolstering the role of chieftaincy in national development.

According to 3news, he noted that the NPP is committed to uniting Ghanaians regardless of ethnicity or religion, pointing to Dr. Bawumia’s role as the first Muslim Vice Presidential candidate for a major party as evidence of their commitment to inclusivity.

“The NPP holds a deep respect for the chieftaincy institution,” he remarked.

Appeal for support in upcoming elections

Dr. Opoku Prempeh also seized the chance to assure the northern people that the NPP will not neglect them in their campaign and is not a party that is partial to the northern part of the country.

He exercised his support for Dr. Bawumia of the NPP noting that his leadership will go a long way in also promoting development for all the people of Ghana.

Yaa Naa Abukari in response told Dr. Opoku Prempeh to be truthful in his endeavors and promised to provide him a bashorin, a smock, from his palace.

The meeting therefore confirmed the NPP’s respect for chieftaincy and called on support and togetherness among the people of Ghana as the country prepares for the general election.
