After putting up an incredible show at the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas, Ghana’s 4×100 men’s relay team has masterfully guaranteed their spot at the next Olympic Games in Paris. After a setback earlier in the season, the squad came together to produce a faultless race and secure their spot in Paris in 2024 with the best time of the season.
In the second relay heat, the team—Issac Botsio, Joseph Paul Amoah, Benjamin Azamati, and Ibrahim Fuseni—put on an outstanding performance. Fuseni got off to an excellent start in the race, finishing in 10.69 seconds, and then passed the baton to Botsio, who carried on the pace with a time of 9.13 seconds. Then, in 9.35 seconds, anchor man Azamati, the current 100-meter record holder for Ghana, took the lead and raced through his leg, setting up anchor Joseph Paul Amoah to close out the race. Amoah did not disappoint, finishing his segment in 9.12 seconds, and securing the first place for the team with an overall time of 38.29 seconds.
With this accomplishment, Ghana has qualified for the Olympics twice in a row in the 4×100 men’s relay. Ghana has already participated in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. With a silver medal at the most recent African Games, the team’s impressive record is further enhanced by their recent triumph. They are the first athletes from Ghana to compete in the athletics division at the next Olympics in Paris thanks to this qualification.
Ghana’s relay team will compete in the Paris Olympics against elite teams from across the globe, including Jamaica, Japan, Canada, China, France, Great Britain, and the USA. These teams have all demonstrated exceptional skill in previous contests, laying the groundwork for what looks to be an interesting race in Paris.
Ghana’s men’s relay team’s qualification provides motivation and pride for the country while showcasing their abilities and potential on the global stage. Their recovery from a loss in the first round of heats to victory in the qualifying round is a good example of tenacity and cooperation.
