According to Atta Akyea, the next leader must have temperament, maturity, and statesmanship. He emphasized that constructive engagement with the international community is crucial.
“Let’s not make a mistake and elect someone who will insult world leaders when he travels to the United Nations,” he said.
Furthermore, the NPP will hold its flagbearer election on January 31 for the 2028 polls. Among five candidates, the frontrunners are former Vice President Mahamamudu Bawumia and former MP Kennedy Agyapong.
Atta Akyea did not directly name anyone in his remarks. Observers believe his comments were aimed at Agyapong.
Delegates are also urged to consider the candidate’s ability to maintain Ghana’s image abroad. Atta Akyea’s warning reflects concerns about international perceptions of Ghanaian leadership.
The party’s selection will also determine who leads NPP into the next general election. Atta Akyea emphasized that careful consideration is needed to uphold national dignity.
