  • Professional conduct and decorum under scrutiny in viral video.
  • Internal review aims to restore trust and uphold standards.

The University of Ghana has initiated an internal review after a video of two professors’ on-air argument went viral.
The incident involved Professor Ransford Gyampo and Dr George Domfeh. Their debate aired on TV3’s The Key Points on November 15.

The video shows the Development Economist and the Political Science teacher disagreeing with one other. The dispute evolved into personal attacks, which startled both academics and everyone who watched. The subject quickly grew on social media, and a lot of people talked about it.

The University said it will assess the conduct of both faculty members. The review follows the University Statutes (2024) and Code of Conduct for Academic Senior Members (2011). These rules require integrity, respect, and professional decorum from senior staff.

University emphasizes standards of professionalism and integrity

A University statement stressed the importance of maintaining institutional dignity. “High standards of professionalism and integrity must guide all faculty,” it said. The University pledged to take disciplinary actions if required.

Management reaffirmed commitment to public confidence in the institution. The incident occurred during a segment known for robust debate on national issues. Officials said the confrontation violated expectations for decorum and civility.

The University reiterated its focus on mutual respect and integrity. It stressed that public engagements reflect on the institution’s reputation. “Members must uphold values in both private and professional conduct,” the statement added.

The internal review is ongoing, with results expected to determine next steps. Officials hope that the process would help people trust the government again and raise the bar. The experience highlights how hard it may be to find a balance between free expression and doing your job right.
