Former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia isn’t taking lightly the wave of tribal and religious attacks aimed at him in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries.

Speaking to supporters at the NPP USA anniversary in New York, Bawumia said the comments reflect “bigotry” and desperation from rivals who fear his growing influence. He argued the party must not allow such tactics to define its future.

Bawumia rejects tribal and religious bigotry

He criticized fellow aspirant Bryan Acheampong for suggesting his Mamprusi identity cost the NPP Kusasi votes. He also dismissed claims by Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign aide, who alleged his wife Samira isn’t a true Ghanaian.

Bigotry absent when party needed him

Bawumia reminded members that no one questioned his faith or ethnicity when he defended the NPP in court in 2013, or when his campaign work in the north helped secure the 2016 and 2020 elections.

NPP must stand above tribal and religious bigots

Despite his disappointment, Bawumia expressed confidence that most NPP members reject tribal and religious bigotry.

He said the party has always thrived on diversity and warned against divisive rhetoric that could weaken its unity.
