Key Points

  • MP blames hypocrisy for NPP 2024 election loss.
  • He says all members share responsibility for the defeat.
  • Lawmaker urges unity behind Bawumia for 2028 elections.

Upper Denkyira West MP Rudolf Amoako-Gyampah has criticized New Patriotic Party (NPP) members who, he says, contributed to the 2024 election defeat but later tried to shift blame.

Speaking during Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign tour in Twifo Praso on September 29, the MP accused some party members of plotting against the party for personal gain. He described such behavior as hypocritical and damaging.

“No true NPP member will wash the party’s dirty linen in public and sabotage it as some did,” Amoako-Gyampah said.

Calls for accountability and unity in the party

The MP stressed that the NPP 2024 election loss should not be blamed on one individual. Instead, he argued that multiple actions within the party led to the defeat.

“Everyone contributed to the defeat, so some people should stop being hypocritical. They should be bold and admit they were part of the problem,” he added.

Amoako-Gyampah called on members to take responsibility and focus on rebuilding the party rather than pointing fingers.

Support for Bawumia ahead of 2028 elections

Looking forward, Amoako-Gyampah urged unity behind former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party prepares for 2028.

He argued that Bawumia had already been “marketed” to Ghanaians and secured 41% support in the last election, making him the best candidate for continuity.

“If we drop such a person and go for an unknown face, then we are not serious about winning,” he said.
