Nine men accused of attacking a Weija sub-chief with a cutlass, axe, and scissors have been remanded in police custody. The order came from the Adabraka District Court in Accra while police continue their search for four other suspects who are still on the run.

The victim, Mutala Yayaa, is a trader and a sub-chief at Weija. Police say he suffered deep cuts to his head and body after the attack on September 10, 2025.

How the attack happened

According to the police report, Yayaa was walking with his assistants at Darkuman Cable and Wireless when the suspects confronted him.

They questioned why he was in the area and ordered him to sit down. When he refused, they attacked him with the weapons.

He was stabbed several times with scissors and also wounded with a cutlass and an axe. Police later gave him a medical form for treatment. He later returned the endorsed report to investigators.

The accused are Bernard Tagoe, also known as Asa Sese, 31; Eric Nii Martey, 28; Michael Lokko, 22; Felix Adu Mensah, 22; Habib Gusamu, 31; Solomon Assan, 29; Kwame Khalid, 29; Jacob Addy, 25; and Gideon Arthur, 21.

The suspects were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and causing harm. During questioning, they denied the charges in their caution statements.

The case has been referred to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department in Accra for further investigations.

Prosecutors, led by Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana, told the court that efforts are ongoing to arrest the four missing accomplices.

The presiding judge, Mrs. Abena Owusu Omenyo, did not take the suspects’ pleas and ordered that they remain in custody while investigations continue.
