Three suspected armed robbers were fatally shot on Monday, July 21, 2025, during a gun battle with security agents from the Tema Regional Police Command in Kpone, Ghana. The incident occurred after the gang reportedly broke into a warehouse at the Tema Industrial Area.

According to a statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dede Dzakpasu and shared with the Ghana News Agency, the police received a distress call around midnight indicating that armed men, estimated to be about ten in number, were carrying out a robbery at a warehouse in the industrial district.

“A police patrol team was immediately dispatched to the scene and was met with heavy gunfire from the suspects,” the statement noted. The confrontation escalated into a shoot-out, during which three of the suspected robbers were gunned down by the police.

Police recover pistols, ammunition as remaining suspects flee with gunshot wounds

“Three of the suspects were shot in the process and have been pronounced dead,” ASP Dzakpasu stated. The rest of the gang reportedly fled the scene under the cover of darkness, and some are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange.

The police recovered several weapons and ammunition at the scene, including a Bruni Mod foreign pistol, a double-barreled locally manufactured pistol loaded with two rounds of ammunition, and 11 live BB rounds.

Authorities have deposited the bodies of the deceased at the Police Hospital Morgue in Accra for identification, preservation, and autopsy. Meanwhile, a full-scale investigation has commenced to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

ASP Dzakpasu emphasized that members of the public should assist police with any information that may lead to the arrest of the remaining individuals. She reiterated the police’s commitment to ensuring safety and order across the Tema region.

The Tema Regional Police Command has praised the swift action of the Kpone District Command, whose response helped prevent the robbery from escalating further. “The courage and prompt intervention of our officers is commendable and reinforces our readiness to tackle violent crimes,” the Command noted.

This incident marks another attempt by law enforcement in Ghana to combat the rising cases of organized robbery rings operating in key commercial zones, particularly in the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions. Just last month, a similar operation led to the arrest of four armed robbers in the Ashaiman area following a spate of attacks on logistics companies.

Residents in and around the Tema Industrial Area have raised concerns over repeated attacks on warehouses and transport companies. Many are now calling for tighter security, including increased police presence and surveillance systems in commercial zones.

As the investigation continues, the police have urged hospital personnel and community members to report any individuals seeking treatment for unexplained gunshot wounds.
