On Wednesday, Attorney General and Justice Minister Dr. Dominic Ayine said he was certain that a significant corruption trial will result in convictions.

Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, and his spouse, Angela Adjei Boateng, are at the heart of the case.

To raise the total number of suspects to four, authorities additionally prosecuted Mildred Donkor and Advantage Solutions Limited, a private corporation.

The defendants are charged with 11 counts of financial misconduct, fraud, and corruption reportedly involving millions of Ghanaian cedis in public monies.

Dr. Ayine stated during a press conference on April 30 that Raymond Archer led a comprehensive investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office.

He attributed his own trust in the case and the prosecution’s approach to EOCO’s thorough and fact-based inquiry.

“I expect convictions on most, if not all, of the charges preferred today,” Ayine stated, specifically referring to the case.

Bank documents, deposit slips, check numbers, and the testimonies of those directly involved in the suspected fraud are among the evidence, he clarified.

At the briefing, he said, “Primary persons who were close to the action have agreed, after interrogation, to testify in this matter.”

Political motives rejected in press briefing on NSB corruption case

Concerns about the scheduling of the press conference, which some detractors claimed might have political overtones or intentions, were also addressed by the attorney general.

“Let it be known that His Excellency John Mahama is fully informed and cannot be misled, in contrast to some previous presidents.”

According to Myjoyonline, Dr. Ayine underlined the government’s duty to notify the public about court proceedings and said that openness is crucial in high-profile cases.

In the meantime, Mr. Adu Boahene and his spouse have vehemently refuted any accusations pertaining to fraudulent contracts totaling about GH₵49 million, or $7 million.

When the trial officially starts, the couple’s attorneys are getting ready to mount a strong defense against the charges, and they insist they are innocent.

All eyes are on the outcome as the prosecution prepares its case, which could establish a major precedent in Ghana’s anti-corruption initiatives.
