Ghana’s Parliament has approved a fresh slate of ministers nominated by President John Mahama, marking the latest chapter in his administration’s reshuffle.

The decision followed thorough vetting by the Appointments Committee and an extensive parliamentary debate.

The appointees include Ahmed Ibrahim, Member of Parliament (MP) for Banda; Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, MP for Krowor; and Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, MP for Techiman North.

Consensus in Parliament after intense vetting

The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, presided over the plenary session on January 23, where both Majority and Minority members engaged in a spirited debate on the nominees’ capabilities.

According to JoyOnline, the discussions evaluated the candidates’ track records, leadership potential, and alignment with the mandates of their assigned portfolios.

After hours of bipartisan scrutiny, lawmakers reached a consensus, affirming the nominees’ suitability for their roles. The Second Deputy Speaker’s formal confirmation signaled the conclusion of a crucial step in Mahama’s ongoing governance reshuffle.

Strategic appointments aligned with National development goals

Ahmed Ibrahim, the MP for Banda, will serve as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. His portfolio is critical to advancing decentralization and fostering collaboration with traditional leadership structures.

Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, MP for Krowor, takes on the role of Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection. Her focus will be on championing social equity and expanding support for marginalized groups, a key pillar of Mahama’s governance strategy.

Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, MP for Techiman North, steps into the position of Minister for Trade, Industry, and Agribusiness. Her mandate includes driving industrialization and economic diversification to bolster Ghana’s position in regional and global markets.

Governance strategy anchored in expertise and vision

These appointments reflect President Mahama’s commitment to addressing Ghana’s pressing challenges through experienced and visionary leadership. By selecting seasoned lawmakers, his administration aims to deliver on national priorities, including economic growth, social protection, and inclusive governance.

The confirmation of these ministers marks a significant step in Ghana’s political landscape, signaling renewed momentum toward achieving long-term development objectives.
