Bawumia vows to sign anti-LGBTQ+ bill into law
He made the pledge while discussing his aspirations to address important legislative issues that impact national development during a worship session at the Philadelphia Church in Kumasi.
The measure, which aims to make LGBTQ+ acts illegal, is presently pending approval from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Citing continuing legal challenges to the bill’s constitutionality, the president has postponed making a judgement on it. The Supreme Court is scheduled to rule on these cases on December 18, and the decision may have an impact on the bill’s future.
According to myjoyonline, Bawumia underlined that after the legal process is over, he will firmly support the measure. He promised the crowd, “I will sign this bill without hesitation when I come to power,” referring to the legislation as a national priority.
The Anti-Witchcraft Bill, which seeks to prohibit damaging behaviors and allegations that result in violence against vulnerable people, was one of the other important concerns the candidate discussed.
Bawumia stated, “I think that by addressing these significant issues, we are laying the foundation for a more just and cohesive society.” “As a nation, we must make sure that our laws are respected and enforced, and that all citizens are shielded from harmful practices.”
Bawumia plans to complete unfinished administration projects.
Bawumia presented his plans for finishing up unfinished programs and projects that were initiated by the current administration, in addition to his position on contentious laws. “A large number of projects and policies are still unfinished. He reassured the audience, “I will see to it that these projects are finished for the benefit of all Ghanaians when I take office.”
Bawumia’s statements demonstrate his emphasis on maintaining national unity and his dedication to enforcing laws that uphold the integrity and ideals of Ghanaian society.
