Africa Oil Week (AOW) as a key event in the world energy event portfolio is billed to move from Cape Town to Accra, the business capital of Ghana from September 15 to 18, 2025.

This decision made by the government of Ghana in collaboration with AOW and the Africa Prosperity Network shows that Ghana is gradually establishing itself as a key player in Africa’s energy market and plays the role of becoming a hub of energy investment in Africa.

Ghana to host landmark gathering for Africa’s energy sector

However, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed excitement about the event, describing it as a major milestone for Ghana and Africa’s future in energy.

“Hosting Africa Oil Week in Accra is a significant moment for Ghana,” he said, acknowledging Sankofa Events for choosing Ghana as the new host. President Akufo-Addo also commended Paul Sinclair, CEO of Sankofa Events and a key advocate for the relocation, for his commitment to advancing Africa’s energy sector.

Furthermore, Paul Sinclair emphasized that AOW’s relocation signifies Africa’s intent to lead its own energy development. “Africa Oil Week is about Africa setting its own path in resource development.

We are focused on ensuring energy access for Africans and positioning the continent as a key player in the global energy sphere,” Sinclair said. Moreover, he underscored the importance of fostering partnerships that balance growth with sustainability.

Building strategic partnerships for sustainable growth

However, in a press conference at Accra’s Kempinski Hotel, Ghana’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Herbert Krapa, shared the government’s goals for the event, which will bring together African ministers, national oil companies, and regulatory bodies.

“Our aim is to make AOW the top energy dialogue on the continent, setting the stage for transformative discussions and partnerships that will propel Africa’s energy future,” he stated.

In addition, Egbert Faibille Junior, CEO of Ghana’s Petroleum Commission, emphasized that hosting AOW aligns with Ghana’s vision for a competitive upstream sector. “The arrival of AOW is a milestone for Ghana’s energy goals, supporting our plans to strengthen upstream potential and develop new frameworks,” he said.

According to Graphic Online, Africa Prosperity Network, a strategic partner of AOW, noted that hosting the event empowers African service providers to access international projects.

“This is a proud moment for Ghana and Africa’s oil and gas industry,” the network’s representative stated, adding that the event will bring global industry leaders to explore Africa’s energy potential and encourage investment.

Expected to be held from September 15, 2025 to September 18, 2025 at Kempinski Hotel, Accra – Africa Oil Week is set to be a platform for progress in energy discourse, advancement and cooperation placing Ghana in the middle of Africa energy opportunity.
