Presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has called on Ghanaians to pursue a just society where every individual feels valued and secure. Speaking during his ongoing #Mahama4Change2024 campaign, Mahama emphasized that “True peace cannot exist without justice,” noting that peace requires fairness and mutual respect.

Addressing tensions and recent conflicts, particularly in areas like Bawku, where violence has shattered communities, Mahama highlighted the need for proactive measures to prevent such tragedies. “Had we been proactive in addressing the tensions in our midst, perhaps we would not have faced tragedies such as those in Bawku, where lives are being lost and families are being shattered,” he remarked.

Campaign suspended to support national peace efforts

On Sunday, November 3, 2024, Mahama suspended his campaign to join key religious and civil organizations, including the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council and the Christian Council of Ghana, in launching a National Peace Campaign in Accra. His participation demonstrated his commitment to fostering peace, grounded in justice and fairness.

For Mahama, peace is not merely the absence of conflict but requires justice, respect, and fairness for all. He reaffirmed the NDC’s dedication to being the voice of the voiceless and standing alongside Ghanaians who seek a peace built on the foundations of justice.

Oti Region tour focuses on jobs, women, and apprenticeship programs

Following the peace campaign, Mahama resumed his tour of the Oti Region, starting in Kwamekrom within the Biakoye constituency. During the two-day visit, Mahama will address critical issues affecting the region, including job creation, support for women-owned businesses, and the launch of a National Apprentice Programme aimed at empowering young Ghanaians.

Mahama’s tour is part of his broader efforts to connect with the people of the Oti Region and ensure that his campaign focuses on the key areas necessary for Ghana’s growth and development. Through these engagements, Mahama hopes to foster unity, promote economic progress, and bring about meaningful change in the lives of Ghanaians across the nation.
