Bawumia Launches Bold Job Creation Plan for Ghana’s Youth

NPP Flagbearer outlines strategies to generate 4 million jobs, enhance education, and boost the digital economy

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, announced a comprehensive plan to create jobs that will change the employment situation for young people in Ghana.

At a youth engagement event held at Accra’s Borteyman Sports Complex, Bawumia presented his proposal, which he claims could create around four million employment should he win the election on December 7.

The event reached out to youth from all the 16 regions through virtual platforms, thus bringing out the need for connectivity in achieving his goals.

A vision for economic revival

Bawumia indicated that differing from previous governments which have neglected youth employment, his government will ensure priority to youth employment through enacting business friendly laws that will expand the economy.

He considered the hardships that was faced By Ghanaians under earlier administrations, particularly with volatile power rationing that lowered productivity levels.

He urged the youth to vote for progressive leaders because he vouched to steer the nation forward with futuristic solutions.

The purpose for which Bawumia has initiated employment creation program is to enable the youth to have direct control in the decision-making process.

He recommended young people should be encouraged to become agent of change in their societies and that is why their voice should be heard in matters concerning their society.

Education and economic growth

The expansion of educational possibilities is a crucial component of Bawumia’s goal. He suggested providing scholarships to those with disabilities, expanding student housing at public colleges, and expediting the application process for postsecondary education through a centralized system.

Acccording to 3news, Bawumia reiterated his support for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Free Senior High School (SHS) initiatives, which he attributes to increased enrollment and gender equality in education.

Regarding the economy, Bawumia presented his plan to finish the Agenda 111 hospitals project, which would generate thousands of jobs and offer healthcare access in every region.

Additionally, he presented intentions to create a Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Bank, implement a “Buy Ghana First” policy, and develop Special Economic Zones at border locations in order to increase commerce and local industries

Leveraging technology for job creation

A major component of Bawumia’s vision is technology. He suggested creating a National Robotics, Engineering, and AI Lab to promote digital transformation in collaboration with academic institutions and IT firms.

Again, to foster technological development, he also disclosed that he will eliminate the taxes on imported mobile devices, do away with the E-Levy, and create the Fintech Fund to support the organizations.

Larger farming and irrigation are among the goals that Bawumia plans to apply technology solutions to agriculture to bring about jobs and food security. Also, he intends to advance research and development in the area and create agriculturally enclosed spaces that correspond to the geographical advantages.

In housing and mining, he has promised to provide affordable social housing for low-paid workers and increase the resource industry’s engagement in the anti-corruption fight in Ghana.
