One suspect has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service after a group of armed robbers abandoned their vehicle during a failed robbery operation in Accra. The robbers were so compelled to flee that they left behind highly relevant evidence, such as weapons and their getaway vehicle. Since then, the police have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects in the botched operation.
Arrest made after failed robbery
The armed robbers tried to carry out a robbery in a residential area in the early hours of the day. But the operation did not run according to plan and when the robbers were unable to get away from the car, they got out and ran off on foot.
GhanaWeb reports that one suspect was arrested with firearms and other tools used in the attempted robbery, and that quick police intervention was responsible. He is in police custody and cooperating with police probe into criminal gang’s activities.
Weapons found at the scene
During the operation police found weapons, including firearms, ammunition and other tools that were believed to have been taken to be used in break-ins, in the abandoned vehicle. These weapons have let investigators trace other gang member movements and identities through finding them.
The police said: ‘We have commended the quick action of the local authorities who swiftly arrested a suspect and seized dangerous weapons that may have been used in future crimes.’ Now, the authorities are gathering the evidence they’ve gathered in order to find the other suspects who escaped.
Ongoing manhunt for suspects
The Ghana Police Service has intensified its search for the other robbers who were involved in the failed heist after the arrest. The public is being asked to provide any information that could help law enforcement agencies locate the remaining members of the gang. The police has asked for residents in the affected areas to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities in order to aid the search for the robbers.
Authorities believe the remaining suspects are still at large and could try to elude capture. But the police are confident the public and ongoing investigations will result in the arrest of the whole gang.
The community safety, vigilance.
This is a good reason for community vigilance and quick police action against crime. This was reassured to the public by the police that they were committed to safety and order down there. Residents have been asked to guard against further criminal activities and to cooperate more with authorities.
The Ghana Police Service, which has already made one arrest and recovered weapons, does not plan to release the suspects until they have been captured and brought to justice to maintain security in Accra’s neighborhoods.
