NDC’s Fifi Kwetey Warns of NPP’s Vote Manipulation in 2024

Emphasizes the Need for Vigilance and Accountability

by Adenike Adeodun

Fifi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that the December 7, 2024, general election is “a battle between Ghana and the NPP” which the NDC must win. Speaking at the NDC’s campaign launch in Tamale, Northern Region, Kwetey expressed optimism for victory but warned that defeating the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not be easy.

The NDC, known for its ideals of probity and accountability, has accused the ruling NPP, led by President Nana Akufo-Addo, of gross corruption, leading to economic and financial crises. Kwetey claimed that the NPP is desperate to avoid impending accountability and prosecution for corruption.

“They know that once they are out, punishment will follow them, and they will be prosecuted for corruption,” Kwetey stated. He urged the electorate to be extra vigilant as the NPP would “do everything possible to steal the votes.”

Kwetey assured the people that the NDC is committed to delivering on its promises despite the challenges. He emphasized a proactive and thorough campaign, led by flagbearer and former President John Dramani Mahama, to ensure victory.

“We want to reach out to the people through house-to-house and retail campaigns. The emphasis is on touching base with the people,” Kwetey said. He highlighted that Tamale was chosen for the campaign launch due to its significance as an NDC stronghold and its historical importance in previous victories, such as in 2008 under the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills.

“Tamale represents an important starting point for our journey. It gave us a resounding victory in 2008, and we believe it will do the same in 2024. The spirit of Tamale is crucial in setting the tone for the campaign across the country,” Kwetey added.

As the NDC gears up for the election, Kwetey reiterated that the party’s campaign will be different and more engaging, focusing on direct interaction with the electorate. The NDC aims to remind the people of their commitment to accountability and their promise to deliver a better future for Ghana.

The NDC’s strategy involves energizing its base and expanding its reach through grassroots mobilization. By launching the campaign in Tamale, the NDC seeks to harness the enthusiasm and support of its stronghold to drive momentum across the nation.

The NDC is determined to address the issues of corruption and economic mismanagement, which they claim have plagued Ghana under the NPP administration. Kwetey’s statements underscore the high stakes of the upcoming election and the NDC’s resolve to bring about change.

As the campaign progresses, the NDC will focus on key issues affecting Ghanaians, including economic stability, job creation, and social justice. The party believes that its message of accountability and good governance will resonate with voters and secure a victory in the December elections.

Kwetey’s call to action highlights the NDC’s commitment to a fair and transparent election process. The party aims to ensure that every vote counts and that the will of the people is respected.

The upcoming election is seen as a critical juncture for Ghana’s future, with the NDC positioning itself as the party of integrity and accountability. As the campaign heats up, both the NDC and the NPP will be vying for the support of the electorate, each presenting their vision for the country’s future.

The December 2024 election is not just a political contest but a defining moment for Ghana. The NDC, led by Fifi Kwetey and John Dramani Mahama, is poised to challenge the incumbent NPP, advocating for a government that upholds accountability and addresses the pressing needs of the people. The outcome of this election will shape Ghana’s trajectory for years to come.
