Kennedy Agyapong’s Supporters Demand Apology, Compensation from NPP

NPP Supporters Protest Alleged Political Sabotage, Seek Justice

by Adenike Adeodun

Supporters of Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are demanding an apology and compensation from the ruling party. They claim a business mogul aligned with Agyapong was unfairly targeted.

Nana Opoku-Agyemang, patron of all Kennedy Agyapong groups, addressed a press conference on Monday. He stated that their loyalty to Agyapong remains unwavering, despite his decision to join Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign.

“We will forever remain loyal to Mr. Kennedy Agyapong,” Opoku-Agyemang said. “His decision to join Dr. Bawumia is his own wish, and that does not compel us to join anyone.”

The supporters assert they need an apology and significant compensation for George Oti Bonsu, a business mogul whose building was allegedly demolished for political reasons. They claim Dr. Bawumia’s brother-in-law, Abu Ramadan, is responsible for the demolition.

“You can’t demolish someone’s building because he supported Kennedy Agyapong and then expect us to join your camp,” Opoku-Agyemang stated. “Bawumia’s camp must apologize and compensate Mr. Oti Boateng before we consider joining their team.”

The group insists that political sabotage was at play. They claim former President John Agyekum Kufuor advised Ramadan to resolve the issue amicably, but he ignored this counsel.

Mr. Oti Bonsu, known as an NPP financier, became an enemy to Dr. Bawumia’s camp after supporting Agyapong in the NPP presidential race. “We can’t collapse someone’s finances and then call for unity,” Opoku-Agyemang said. “Our members remain focused on being loyal to Kennedy Agyapong alone.”

This incident underscores tensions within the NPP as supporters of Kennedy Agyapong stand firm in their demands. The controversy highlights the challenges the party faces in maintaining unity ahead of the elections.

The supporters’ call for compensation and apology emphasizes their frustration with the party’s handling of the situation. They believe justice must be served before they can consider any alliance with Dr. Bawumia’s campaign.

Political analysts suggest that this internal conflict could impact the NPP’s cohesion. The party’s leadership must address these grievances to avoid further division. Resolving the issue of Mr. Oti Bonsu’s compensation and securing an apology may help mend the rift.

As the NPP navigates this internal dispute, the party’s ability to unify its supporters will be crucial. Ensuring fair treatment and addressing allegations of political sabotage will be vital steps in rebuilding trust.

Supporters of Kennedy Agyapong demand an apology and compensation from the NPP. They remain loyal to Agyapong and will only consider joining Dr. Bawumia’s camp if their demands are met. This situation highlights the challenges the NPP faces in maintaining unity and addressing internal conflicts.
