Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has donated GH₵500,000 to the Ga Education Fund, aiming to bolster educational opportunities for underprivileged children within the Ga Dangbe community. This significant contribution was announced during a grand durbar hosted in his honor by the Ga State, under the leadership of Ga Mantse, Nii Teiko Tsuru II.

The event not only served as a platform for this generous donation but also marked the Asantehene’s first historic visit to the Ga State since 1946, symbolizing a strengthening of ties between the Ashanti and Ga peoples. During the durbar, the Asantehene spoke about the importance of unity and collaboration for the development of their communities, emphasizing the critical role of education in advancing societal progress.

“I want to donate an amount of GH₵500,000 to the Ga Education Fund to help in the education of less-privileged Ga children,” declared Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, addressing the gathering through an interpreter. His gesture highlights a profound commitment to supporting educational initiatives that can lift children out of poverty and provide them with the tools needed to succeed in life.

In his heartfelt address, the Asantehene expressed his gratitude for the warm reception he received from the Ga State and underscored the importance of unity among the Ga and Ashanti peoples, as well as among all chiefs in Ghana. “The people of Ga and Ashanti must unite to develop our peoples. All Ga chiefs must unite behind Nii Teiko Tsuru II. Unity and development must be our focus in the interest of our children,” he stressed.

Reflecting on the evolving role of traditional leaders in contemporary society, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II pointed out that the focus of chieftaincy should shift from territorial conquests to developmental pursuits that benefit future generations. “The fight now should be for development in the interest of the future generation,” he stated, advocating for a forward-looking approach to leadership within traditional realms.

The Asantehene also took a moment to acknowledge the support he received from Nii Teiko Tsuru II during his own 25th-anniversary celebrations, describing his contribution as a reciprocal gesture of goodwill. “I appreciate your presence during my 25th anniversary celebration. You showed love. This is a reciprocal gesture,” he remarked, highlighting the mutual respect and cooperation between the two leaders.

Further solidifying his support for the Ga Mantse, the Asantehene encouraged all chiefs in the Ga State to rally behind Nii Teiko Tsuru II’s leadership to drive regional development. He pledged his ongoing support and availability for counsel, reinforcing his commitment to collaborative growth and development across tribal lines. “I pray for guidance from the gods. My doors are open. Anytime you need advice on any subject, I am always available,” he assured.
