The Mampong Hospital in the Ashanti region of Ghana has received a donation of medical equipment and supplies from the Krontihene of Asante Mampong, Nana Kwaku Duah. The donation, whichh was made on Monday, February 19, 2024, included hospital beds, mattresses, wheelchairs, crutches, blood pressure monitors, thermometers, and other essential items. The Krontihene said he was moved by the plight of the hospital, which had been struggling with inadequate resources and infrastructure for a long time. He said he decided to use his personal funds to procure the items and support the hospital in improving its health care delivery. He also urged other well-meaning individuals and organizations to emulate his gesture and contribute to the development of the health sector in Ghana. The medical Superintendent of the Mampong Hospital, Dr. Kwame Asante, expressed his gratitude to the Krontihene for his generosity and kindness. He said the donation would go a long way in enhancing the quality of service and comfort of the patients and staff of the hospital. He also appealed to the government and other stakeholders to assist the hospital in addressing its challenges, such as lack of space, water, electricity, and personnel. The Mampong Hospital, which was established in 1928, serves as a referral center for several communities in the Ashanti region. It has a bed capacity of 250 and offers various services, such as surgery, maternity, pediatrics, dentistry, ophthalmology, and physiotherapy. The hospital, however, faces many difficulties in meeting the growing demand for health care, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has stretched the health system to its limits. The donation by the Krontihene is therefore a timely intervention that will help the hospital cope with the situation and save more lives. Source: Graphic Online
