Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Senior Presidential Advisor, has called on New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates to ramp up their campaigns, focusing on breaking the party’s eight-year electoral cycle. Addressing the importance of not just filing nominations but actively striving to become legislators, Osafo-Maafo emphasized the need for continued dedication.
Speaking at the Akyem Oda constituency office, where incumbent MP Alexander Akwasi Acquah filed his nomination amidst a large, jubilant crowd, Osafo-Maafo outlined the significant challenge of winning the 2024 general election. He commended Acquah for his developmental efforts in the constituency, urging him to sustain and expand these projects.
According to a report by the Daily Graphic, Osafo-Maafo advised Acquah and his team to avoid arrogance, complacency, and disrespectful language. Instead, he urged them to focus on attracting more voters to strengthen the party’s presidential votes in the December 7, 2024, elections.
Acquah, buoyed by the strong turnout at his nomination filing, expressed his commitment to boosting the NPP’s presidential vote share from 79% in 2020 to over 90% in the upcoming election. He thanked the constituency NPP executives for their unwavering support since he became a legislator in January 2021.
Acquah also highlighted the Oda constituency’s achievement of securing the highest number of presidential and parliamentary votes in the Eastern Region during the 2020 general election. He vowed to maintain this record in the 2024 elections.
The event also featured speeches from Ben Kuuku Baiden, the Constituency NPP Secretary, and Victoria Adu, the Municipal Chief Executive for Birim Central.
