The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates. The announcement comes amid significant measures against examination malpractice, leading to the cancellation and withholding of several results.

According to an update released by WAEC, the subject results of 4,108 candidates have been cancelled for bringing unauthorized materials, including prepared notes, textbooks, and printed material, into examination halls. Additionally, the entire results of 483 candidates were cancelled for possession of mobile phones during exams.

The Council has also withheld Subject Results of 781 candidates and Entire Results of 209 candidates for various suspected examination offences. Investigations are ongoing, and the outcomes will determine whether these withheld results will be released or permanently cancelled.

Examination statistics

A total of 460,611 candidates, comprising 212,954 males and 247,657 females from 1,003 schools, registered for the examination. This represents a 2.66% increase from the 2023 entry figure of 448,674. However, 4,609 candidates (1.0%) were absent during the exams.

The performance statistics for the core subjects—English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies—are available on the Council’s official website. Schools can access their candidates’ results through provided login details, while individual candidates can check their results online at www.waecgh.org.

Measures to curb fraud

WAEC has reiterated its warning against fraudsters who promise result upgrades for a fee. The Council emphasizes the integrity of its result system, which can be authenticated using its result verification system and a QR code available for download.

Additionally, subject results from 319 schools have been withheld due to alleged collusion. These cases remain under investigation, with outcomes pending further review by WAEC’s Ghana Examinations Committee.

Commitment to fairness and integrity

The 37th Meeting of the Ghana Examinations Committee approved the disciplinary actions following thorough investigations into irregularities reported during the examination process. WAEC expressed its gratitude to stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, and security agencies, for their support in maintaining the integrity of the examination process.

The release of the 2024 WASSCE results underscores WAEC’s commitment to transparency and upholding academic standards. Candidates and stakeholders are urged to access results through official channels and remain vigilant against fraudulent schemes. As investigations continue, the Council reaffirms its dedication to promoting fairness and credibility in its examinations.
