Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to prioritize Ghana’s development and leave behind a lasting legacy. The call was made through a delegation of Gonja Traditional Area chiefs who visited Mahama at his office in Accra.
The delegation included prominent figures such as Damongowura Seidu Kelly Boresa I, Mankpanwura Anchorde, Kpembiwura Bismark Ndefiso Bambanya I, Yapeiwura Abi Zakaria, and Chief Linguist Adam.
Damongowura Boresa, speaking on behalf of Yagbonwura, described Mahama as a peace-loving leader capable of advancing Ghana’s growth. “He wants him to focus on development so that at the end of his tenure, he will make a good name for himself, which is what the people of Gonjaland stand for,” Boresa stated.
The chiefs also took the opportunity to thank Mahama for constructing a new palace for the Yagbonwura, further solidifying his ties with the Gonja community.
Mahama pledges to work for Ghana’s progress
In his response, President-elect Mahama expressed his gratitude to Yagbonwura for sending the delegation and supporting his political journey.
He reflected on his recent visit to Yagbonwura after winning his party’s presidential primary, recalling how the king shared in his joy. “I know that since that day, he has been praying for me and travelling across the nation, visiting his colleague chiefs and speaking for me,” Mahama noted.
Acknowledging the responsibility ahead, Mahama said, “The easy part is done, the difficult part is working to ensure that Ghana takes its place as the black star of Africa.” Also, he assured the Gonja chiefs that he would prioritize development and seek to establish a positive legacy that would benefit future generations.
According to Graphic Online, Mahama also promised to visit Yagbonwura during the festive season to personally thank him for his unwavering support and share the victory with him.
Condolences and commitment to community development
In a show of empathy, Mahama extended his condolences to Yagbonwura on the loss of his mother.
“Because of the responsibility that was placed on me to lead the transition, I have not had the chance to condole with him. However, I want to extend a message that I will come to share my condolences and weep for the passing of my mother,” he said.
Moreover, the President-elect pledged to prioritize development and fulfill his commitments to Gonjaland and the nation at large. His words underscored a broader vision of inclusive leadership and community engagement.
