Dr. Adutwum assures students of the government's commitment to improve infrastructure and quality of education

by Victor Adetimilehin

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, has dismissed claims that the government has neglected educational facilities in Senior High Schools.

He made this statement during his tour of some schools in the Ashanti Region, where he interacted with students and teachers and inspected ongoing projects.

Addressing Furniture Challenge

One of the schools he visited was the Ejisuman Senior High School, which faced inadequate furniture challenges, affecting teaching and learning.

The headmistress, Cassandra Osei Owusu Antobre, explained that the students had to move the dining hall benches to the classroom and back every day.

Dr. Adutwum assured the students that measures would be taken to address the furniture challenge in schools. He also donated 100 mono desks to the school to ease their plight.

Completing E-blocks

Dr. Adutwum also denied claims that the government has abandoned educational facilities, especially the Community Day Senior High Schools, popularly known as E-blocks. He stressed that the government is actively upgrading and completing the E-blocks in various parts of the country.

He said some of the E-blocks were not opened because they lacked dormitories, making them inaccessible to students who live far away.

Dr. Adutwum added that the government has added dormitory blocks to some of the E-blocks to make them operational.

Promoting STEM Education

Another school that Dr. Adutwum visited was the Bosomtwi Girls Stem Senior High School, a newly constructed school that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. He expressed his excitement to meet the first batch of students who have enrolled in the school.

He said the school has state-of-the-art facilities, such as science labs, robotics labs, and ICT equipment. Dr. Adutwum said the school is part of the government’s vision to promote STEM education and prepare students for the future. He also urged the parents to support their daughters to pursue STEM courses and careers.

Encouraging Parents and Students

Dr. Adutwum also addressed a congregation at the Pentecost Prayer Center, where he urged the parents to take their children’s education seriously. He said education is the key to unlocking the potential of the youth and the nation.

Dr. Adutwum also encouraged the students to believe in themselves and embrace hard work. He advised the students to take advantage of the Free Senior High School policy and the opportunities it offers. He ended his tour on a note of hope, saying that the future is bright for Ghana’s education sector.
