Presbyterian Boys Legon Secures 8th NSMQ Triumph

Presbyterian Boys Senior High School, Legon, has clinched victory for the 8th time in the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) grand finale. In a remarkable achievement, they secured back-to-back wins in 2023, marking the second time they’ve achieved this feat on the 30th anniversary of the NSMQ.

The final round showcased Presec Legon’s dominance as they secured 40 points,  leaving Achimota School with 28 points in second place as the silver medalists, and Opoku Ware School with 23 points in third place, securing the bronze medal.

Presec Legon began their journey in the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) to secure the title right from round one of the 2023 grand finale, ending the first round with a commanding 18 points. In contrast,Opoku Ware School, a two-time champion, and Achimota School, also with two titles, managed 9 and 11 points, respectively.

Presec maintained their lead throughout the competition, culminating in their triumphant 40-point finish in the fifth round. The only round where Achimota School temporarily caught up was the fourth, where both schools were tied at 25 points. Nevertheless, Presec Legon ultimately secured a lead of 31 points in the same round, with Achimota at 28 points and Opoku Ware at 20 points.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, commended the organizers, Primetime, for their role in introducing the National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) for senior high school (SHS) students. He emphasized that the program has generated increased interest in the study of science and related fields among SHS students. Dr. Adutwum also lauded the contestants from all three schools, recognizing their significant contributions to their respective institutions.

Presbyterian Boys Legon’s remarkable 8th victory in the NSMQ not only underscores their commitment to excellence but also serves as an inspiration to students across the nation. The competition has not only showcased the students’ academic prowess but has also instilled a passion for science and mathematics.
