The Ministry of the Interior in Ghana has ordered a full-scale investigation following claims that Special Prosecutor Mr. Kissi Agyebeng survived two assassination attempts while executing his mandate.
The directive comes after allegations surfaced on television that raised concerns about threats to anti-corruption officials in the country.
Allegations Spark Urgent Inquiry
On Newsfile on Saturday, December 6, Samuel Appiah Darko, Director of Research, Communications and Strategy at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), claimed that Mr. Agyebeng had survived two prior assassination attempts and that 17 police officers had handcuffed and assaulted him.
In response, the Ministry described the allegations as “highly concerning,” emphasizing that verified threats against accountability institutions could undermine national anti-corruption efforts. Preliminary engagement with Mr. Agyebeng suggests the alleged assassination attempts occurred before 2025. However, authorities said that no one had filed formal reports of the incidents with the police or state security agencies.
Ministry Directs Two Separate Investigations
The Interior Ministry has issued two directives:
-
Conduct a comprehensive investigation into the alleged assassination attempts against Mr. Agyebeng, highlighting that “crime does not expire.”
-
Investigate claims that Mr. Darko was handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel.
The Ministry pledged to keep the public informed as it conducts investigations and determines any necessary actions.
Furthermore, reaffirming its mandate, the Ministry stressed its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that all citizens can conduct lawful activities without fear. “The Ministry of Interior reiterates its commitment to protecting all lives and properties to ensure that all Ghanaians can conduct all their lawful affairs without any fear for their safety,” the statement concluded.
