KEY POINTS
- The petition states that Justice Kulendi should be sacked for acting inappropriately.
- Allegations concerning the Ato Forson ambulance case.
- The complaint further says that there was a conflict of interest and that someone got in the way.
A new petition seeks the removal of Supreme Court Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi. The petition argues that he did something improper and had a conflict of interest in the well-known ambulance procurement case in Ghana that featured Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
The lawsuit says Justice Kulendi broke judicial rules by involving himself in matters linked to his cousin’s trial, even though he wasn’t presiding over the case. Petitioners say that what he did damaged the courts’ ability to be fair and free.
Claims of interference in court
The petitioner says Justice Kulendi shouldn’t have taken part in the High Court case over the high-profile ambulance procurement incident, which implicates Forson and also two others.
There is a problem with the ambulance trial
The petition says that Kulendi might make people less likely to trust the courts and make it appear like he is not loyal because he is having a conflict with a close relative.
Petition with materials that support it
Furthermore along with the complaint, there are a number of other materials, such a High Court order from June 6, 2024, transcripts of cross-examination, WhatsApp messages between Richard Jakpa and the former Attorney-General, and an affidavit from the Republic.
