KEY POINTS

  • NIA begins Ghana Card registration for children aged 6–14.
  • Exercise starts at Premium Centres, with a GH¢310 service fee.
  • Proof of identity required: passport, birth certificate, or parent/guardian Ghana Card.

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has started registering children aged six to 14 years for the Ghana Card, beginning at its Premium Centres nationwide.

Registration starts at Premium Centres

In a statement issued in Accra on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, and signed by Head of Corporate Affairs Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, the NIA said the initiative forms part of its mandate to capture every Ghanaian in the national identity system from childhood.

The registration is currently available only at Premium Centres, where parents or guardians must pay GH¢310. The Authority also clarified that this fee is the standard service charge for Premium Centres and not a new levy.

Required documents for children

Parents will therefore be required to present proof of identity for their children. Acceptable documents include:

A valid Ghanaian passport of the child, the child’s original birth certificate, and also Ghana Card belonging to a parent or guardian who can vouch for the child.

Online booking to ease access

To further improve access, the NIA announced that from Monday, September 15, 2025, its online booking platform will extend to all 11 Premium Centres nationwide, allowing families to schedule appointments in advance.

The Authority also disclosed that all District Offices will begin registering children in the coming weeks to ease the process for families outside major cities, and it will issue cards shortly after registration.

Towards universal registration

Finally, the NIA urged parents and guardians to take note of the requirements, stressing that the inclusion of children is a crucial step toward achieving universal registration of all Ghanaians.
