  • Bosu urges accountability and decisive government action.

Ghana must treat last week’s military helicopter crash, which killed eight people, as a turning point in its battle against environmental destruction, environmentalist Daryl Bosu said.

Bosu, Deputy Director of conservation group A Rocha Ghana, called the incident — which claimed the lives of two cabinet ministers — a wake-up call to intensify the crackdown on what he described as “environmental terrorism.” The crash occurred on the same day the government was set to launch a major initiative targeting illegal mining and other forms of environmental crime.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Tuesday, Bosu said the tragedy should not be treated as an isolated incident but as a national rallying point. “Eight people had to sacrifice their lives for this initiative we want to do,” he said. “There’s no way we can sit down and ignore this sacrifice.”

Bosu stressed that the planned launch was more than symbolic — it was an opportunity to hold government accountable for ending environmental destruction. He urged both officials and citizens to see the moment as a call to act decisively.

Call for accountability and lasting change

Bosu warned against allowing the tragedy to fade from public memory, comparing it to past policy efforts that failed to deliver results. “Nothing should be the same ever again,” he said. “We need to do things differently. We need to deal with this menace once and for all.”

According to MyJoyOnline, the environmental advocate said any program tackling environmental terrorism must be closely monitored to ensure promises translate into real impact. “We must make sure the government is responsible for everything they have said,” he added.
