Renowned armed robber Dominic Afriyie, popularly known as GH, was found guilty of murder and given a life sentence by a Kumasi High Court. On two robbery convictions, the judge added 120 years of hard labor.
Life imprisonment and 120 years added to Afriyie’s sentence
Afriyie was found guilty of the armed assault and murder of Michael Dela Agbo Klu, a 43-year-old contractor and pharmacist. In November 2021, the murder took place at Klu’s home in Atasemanso, Kumasi.
Judge in charge Following a full trial, His Honour Abdul Razak and a seven-member jury found the 36-year-old guilty. Afriyie entered a not guilty plea to every charge.
On November 20, 2021, Afriyie broke into Mr. Klu’s house with a gun and took GH¢1,500 in cash, two cell phones, and an ASUS Zenbook laptop. Then he shot Mr. Klu to death.
On December 30, 2021, a few weeks later, police were notified of a planned heist in Atasemanso. Immediately a surveillance operation was launched.
Armed robber Dominic Afriyie sentenced for murder
According to Myjoyonline, on December 31, 2021, at around 2:20 a.m., Afriyie and three other people were taken into custody by police in a Toyota Corolla registered AS 5970-20.
Two pistols and two single-barrelled shotguns were found during the car check. Subsequent investigations verified that Afriyie was the only person involved in the robbery and murder of Mr. Klu.
The case that startled the Atasemanso community and caused a great deal of public outcry has been closed by the sentencing.
