The blaze reportedly began around 1:00 a.m., with eyewitnesses suggesting it may have started in the kitchen area of Rockz Waakye, a popular food vendor operating on the premises. Ghana National Fire Service officials were quick to respond, though the fire had already spread by the time they arrived. The exact cause is still being determined, and officials have yet to confirm whether it was an electrical fault, negligence, or something more complex.
No injuries or casualties have been reported so far, according to emergency authorities.
Accra tourist information centre gutted by fire
The Accra Tourist Information Centre is a landmark in the city’s hospitality and tourism scene. Its partial destruction raises questions about fire safety measures in public venues, especially those housing kitchens and food vendors.
In a related incident just a day earlier, over 50 wooden structures and metal kiosks were destroyed in another fire at Madina Ritz Junction. That blaze reportedly began in a washing bay and quickly tore through the slum area, displacing dozens. Fire crews from Madina Station managed to contain it, but the damage was extensive.
According to MyJoyOnline, Investigations into both fires are ongoing as authorities search for answers and evaluate the need for stricter safety protocols across public areas in Accra.
