Another suspect in the robbery and murder of mobile money merchant Christopher Ahordor has been confirmed to have been taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service.
Ghana police arrest suspect linked to mobile money vendor murder
Following coordinated operations by Volta Regional Police and CID Headquarters, the most recent arrest brings the total number of suspects in custody to eight.
Happy Sewordor, 65, who is said to be Michael Sewornu’s father, was taken into custody by police on May 18 at around two in the morning.
According to authorities, Michael Sewornu was previously detained and placed under remand in detention as part of the same criminal investigation into the killing that occurred on April 28.
Officers found four single-barrel cap pistols and a locally manufactured pistol in Happy Sewordor’s residence, according to a police statement dated May 22.
Fifteen empty cartridges, suspected Indian hemp, and amounts of Tramadol thought to be meant for illicit use were among the other things confiscated.
According to the police, Happy Sewordor reportedly gathered the guns and drugs from his son Michael Sewornu’s Aflao home.
Since then, on May 21, authorities have remanded Happy Sewordor in detention and arraigned him; he is scheduled to appear in court again on June 16.
On May 12, three further suspects were detained in Accra by members of the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit on suspicion of involvement.
The accused were identified by police as Eric Dordzinu, 25, Ewe Abraham, commonly known as Wale, 25, and Hadi Sulley, 22.
The three were remanded until June 16 after being sent to the Volta Regional Command on May 14 and arraigned on May 19.
Korku Agboada, Utsuku Onyeso, and Michael Sewornu were previously arraigned by police on May 14; all three are still being held.
Police thank public after arresting eight suspects in vendor murder
As inquiries into the fatal event in Aflao continue, Atsu Agbagla, a fourth suspect, was granted police inquiry bail.
According to Myjoyonline, in order to bring offenders to justice, the Volta Regional Police Command thanked the people for their support and called for ongoing collaboration.
Police reaffirmed their commitment to public safety by saying, “We appreciate the public’s efforts in helping us maintain law and order.”
Police investigations into Christopher Ahordor’s death on April 28 are still open, and more clues are being sought.
