The Second Meeting of the First Session of Ghana’s Ninth Parliament is scheduled to commence on May 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Parliament House in Accra.

The announcement was made by the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, through a statement issued on Monday. The notice, which was also shared with the Ghana News Agency, marks the official resumption of parliamentary activities after a recess that began on March 29, 2025.

“Pursuant to Order 58 of the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana, I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament hereby give notice that the Second Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic will commence on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Ten O’clock in the forenoon at Parliament House, Accra,” the statement read.

Ghana Business News reports that the reconvening of Parliament follows a significant break, during which lawmakers had time for regional engagements and constituent work.

The resumption of parliamentary business on May 27 will be the first since the lengthy break and is expected to include discussions on various national issues, including economic policies, infrastructure development, and key legislative initiatives.

The parliamentary session is crucial for the government’s legislative agenda as several bills are expected to be tabled for debate. During this session, members will focus on matters ranging from economic reforms to social policies. The return of Parliament is also seen as an opportunity for legislators to address pressing issues in their constituencies while ensuring that critical policies are swiftly debated and enacted.

Session expected to strengthen parliamentary processes

In addition to legislative matters, the session is also expected to focus on strengthening parliamentary processes and ensuring that the legislative body operates more efficiently.

Discussions on the functioning of parliamentary committees, as well as the quality of oversight on government actions, will likely be central to the proceedings.

As Ghana looks ahead, the government’s focus on sustainable development and the economy will guide much of the discussion during the reconvening of Parliament.

There are hopes that the upcoming session will produce positive outcomes for the country, particularly in areas of infrastructure, education, and social services.
