The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has decided to focus on the ongoing drug trafficking scandal, sidelining internal matters concerning former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Adwoa Safo. In an interview on Sunday, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong confirmed that the party had postponed its planned meeting, initially scheduled for Monday, April 7.
The decision was made due to the seriousness of the drug trafficking allegations, which the party views as a national issue requiring immediate attention.
Party’s commitment to addressing the scandal
Kodua emphasized that the NPP would not allow its attention to be diverted to Adwoa Safo’s internal party matters.
“There is not going to be any discussion on whether or not Honourable Adwoa Safo is going to appear before any committee or not,” Kodua said. The party’s priority is the drug trafficking issue, and it intends to engage with the government to seek transparency and accountability.
Kodua made it clear that the scandal required urgent action and critical discussions with the government, MyJoyOnline reported.
Criticism of government’s response to the scandal
The NPP General Secretary expressed disappointment with the government’s handling of the situation, particularly the lack of official communication from security agencies regarding the drug trafficking allegations.
He questioned why there had been no formal response, despite the scandal becoming an international topic. Kodua criticized the government’s silence and its failure to address critical concerns surrounding the issue, calling the situation “worrying and embarrassing for the country.
