On Monday, April 2, 2025, police in the Western Region of Ghana arrested 11 suspects for engaging in illegal mining activities along the banks of the Bonsa River.
Among the arrested suspects were four Chinese nationals. The arrests were made following a series of intelligence-led operations aimed at tackling illegal mining in the area.
The arrested suspects include Wei Qinwei, Yao Yongji, Nsoh Oto (also known as Agologo), Kwadwo George (also known as Sergio), and Emmanuel Van (also known as Atta), who were caught at a site near Bonsa.
In addition, six more suspects—Nuang Shichuan, Huang Xinbao, Douglas Ayambilla, Elvis Aborta, Michael Tettey Komlorm, and Ibrahim Dauda—were apprehended at Wassa Agona.

According to the police statement, the arrests came after sustained intelligence-driven operations targeting illegal mining activities. The police confirmed that all suspects are now in custody and will face legal proceedings.
