Dr. Daniel McKorley, CEO of McDan Group, has called on philanthropists, NGOs, and businesses to do more for widows in Ghana. He emphasized that people who have achieved success must help those who are struggling, especially in these tough economic times.
Speaking at the 2025 McDan Foundation Widows Support Project in Accra, McKorley said, “We can’t keep driving luxury cars while widows are suffering in our communities. It doesn’t make sense.”
He pointed out that those who are fortunate enough to succeed have a responsibility to assist others in need.
McDan Foundation helps thousands of widows
The McDan Foundation’s event on March 9, 2025, helped over 6,000 widows from 15 communities in the Greater Accra Region.
The foundation gave out essential items like rice, soft drinks, and salt, along with special packages from the RIDNE Food Consortium. More than 2,000 people also received health screenings, which included checks for eyes, ears, teeth, and general health.
“I’m excited to help my mothers, aunties, and sisters in Accra. I was born and raised here, so it’s my duty to give back to these people,” said McKorley.
Future projects for widows across Ghana
McKorley shared that the McDan Foundation plans to continue its work in other regions of Ghana. The foundation’s next project will take place in the Ashanti, Northern, Volta, and Western regions.
McKorley stressed the importance of helping widows and fighting poverty, saying, “Widows are often overlooked in society, but for me, every widow in Ghana is like a sister.”
