  • 40 missing ECG containers were found in a warehouse in Tamale.
  • The investigation is ongoing, with National Security and the police pursuing further leads.
  • Indian businessman claims to have bought the containers last year, but criminal investigations continue.

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, confirmed that security operatives have successfully traced 40 out of over 1300 missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The containers were found in a warehouse in Pong-Tamale, a community in the Savelugu-Nanton District of the Northern Region.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM on March 26, 2025, Jinapor explained that the National Security and law enforcement agencies had traced the containers to the warehouse, which is owned by an Indian businessman.

The discovery marks a significant development in the investigation into the missing ECG containers, which had raised concerns over the management of state assets.

“The latest briefing I received this morning shows that National Security and the law enforcement agencies have already traced 40 of the missing containers to a warehouse in Pong,” Jinapor said.

“They have confiscated all 40 containers and are moving them to a secure location.”

The Indian businessman, who owns the warehouse, claimed that he purchased the containers last year.

The matter is now under criminal investigation, with National Security and the police continuing their pursuit of further leads. Jinapor mentioned that intelligence is being gathered on additional locations where the missing containers may be found.

Investigation continues into missing ECG containers

Jinapor also emphasized the importance of pursuing all leads and ensuring that those responsible for the missing ECG containers are held accountable.

According to Graphic Online, he also warned against politicizing the ongoing investigation and future prosecutions.

“When we start prosecuting those behind this, no one should accuse us of witch-hunting,” he said. “These are state properties, and we will use all legal means to recover them and ensure that those responsible face the full consequences.”

The missing containers are believed to have contained electrical materials intended for various ECG projects. Moreover, this has led to concerns over the management of state assets and the potential financial impact of their disappearance.

Jinapor reassured the public that the Ghanaian government is committed to recovering the containers and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.

The investigation into the matter is ongoing, with more leads being pursued.
