KEY POINTS

  • NPP directs members to stop media discussions causing disunity.
  • Party members remain dissatisfied due to the recent electoral defeat.
  • The party calls for unity while asking its members to follow constitutional guidelines.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) provided strong instructions to its members to prevent open media dialogues about party internal affairs which may lead to both party fragmentation and image degradation.

The NPP took this step because of growing public discontent after their loss in the recent elections to safeguard party solidarity and discipline.

In a statement released on March 20, 2025, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong acknowledged the emotional distress felt by many party members but urged calm and restraint to prevent further unrest.

“We have all expressed anger, disappointment, and frustration, but I humbly ask that party members remain calm so that cooler heads may prevail,” Frimpong said in the statement.

Directive emphasizes unity and adherence to party constitution

Frimpong cited Article 10(7)(5) of the NPP Constitution, which mandates the coordination of party activities, as the basis for the directive.

The article stresses the importance of avoiding actions that may create unrest, negativity, or disaffection within the party.

Additionally, the directive referenced Article 3(5), which requires members to promote and defend the good name of the NPP.

As a result, party leadership at all levels has been tasked with referring any violators to the appropriate disciplinary committees.

NPP calls for unity and a stronger party moving forward

The statement ended by urging the party to unite in rebuilding its power base.

Frimpong called on members to maintain NPP core principles as they cooperate in building an enhanced party for the future.

According to Graphic Online, the directive has received mixed reactions, with some members arguing for more open discussions, while others support the leadership’s call for discipline.

The NPP continues to prioritize both unity restoration and future success for the party.
