Adwoa Safo treatment after leadership removal

KEY POINTS

  • Safo was moved to the backbench after losing her position.
  • She questioned the Majority Whip’s role in her seating error.
  • NPP officials helped resolve the seating issue and restored her position.

Adwoa Safo, the former deputy majority leader, has voiced her displeasure with the treatment she received after losing her position as leader of Parliament. She disclosed that after being dismissed, she was placed on the backbench, which is normally assigned to new MPs. Given her previous role and the customs established for former Majority and Minority Leaders, Safo called the action a violation of parliamentary convention.

Safo expresses disappointment over removal from leadership position

Safo, who represents the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, clarified on Tuesday, March 18, on Asempa FM’s *Ekosii Sen* that it is customary for former Majority and Minority Leaders to be assigned seats directly behind the current leadership in Parliament. This structure guarantees that they will continue to be respected and acknowledged for their prior leadership positions. Safo asserted that this custom was broken in her situation, though.

Majority Whip denies knowledge of seating error

Everyone denied taking part in the incident. How could the Majority Whip, who is in charge of seating arrangements, have been unaware that I had been incorrectly assigned a seat? Safo inquired. Her remarks brought to light the misunderstanding and poor communication behind her transfer within Parliament.

According to Joy news, Safo also described how Deputy Majority Leader Habib Iddrisu and NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong’s intervention ultimately led to the situation’s correction. In accordance with legislative custom, she was eventually put back in a seat directly behind the leadership after their efforts helped to resolve the matter, according to Safo.

Parliamentary procedures and the treatment of past leaders in the House have come under scrutiny as a result of the episode, and Safo has called for more focus on these issues going forward.
