Mobile money vendor found dead in his Kwadaso apartment
Junior, who operated a MoMo business at the Kwadaso Onion Market, was discovered in a pool of blood. Witnesses say he returned home late Saturday with a large sum of cash, which may have made him a target for criminals.
“He mostly comes home with huge sums of money after closing from work,” a neighbor revealed. “He probably caught the attention of the robbers, leading to his attack.”
According to Myjoyonline, police have since launched an investigation into the killing, but no arrests have been made. The authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could help track down the perpetrators.
This incident comes in the wake of another violent attack on a MoMo vendor in the region. Just last month, 27-year-old Patricia Nimako was shot and killed by armed robbers in Krofrom, Kumasi. The attackers stole 10,000 Ghana cedis and several mobile phones before fleeing. Despite ongoing investigations, no arrests have been made in that case either.
Residents demand increased security following repeated MoMo vendor attacks
Residents of Kwadaso say they are living in fear following these attacks and are calling on law enforcement to act swiftly to curb the rising insecurity.
“We are currently in a state of fear, and we are calling on the Ashanti Regional Police Command to beef up security in Kwadaso,” a resident stated.
Community leaders are urging mobile money vendors to take extra precautions, such as avoiding late-night cash movements and using security escorts when necessary. Meanwhile, authorities assure residents that they are intensifying efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
