Ex-finance minister assures cooperation with investigations upon return

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will return to Ghana following his overseas medical treatment, according to confirmation from Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Ofori-Atta undergoing treatment, troubled by allegations

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, February 13, Afenyo-Markin stated that he had communicated with Ofori-Atta, who promised to assist with any inquiries when he returned.

“Due process must be followed if there is anything against any former government official, and I am confident that we will all be at peace,” Afenyo-Markin stated. In addition, he gave the president his word that the Minority will continue to serve as an opposition caucus and cooperate with the administration as needed.

Details of his recent chat with Ofori-Atta were disclosed by Afenyo-Markin, who stated that the former minister is distressed by the charges leveled against him.

As of this morning, Ken Ofori-Atta told me that although the labels that have been applied to him have traumatized him, he is aware that God is with him. “He’s receiving medical care,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

Minority leader confirms his commitment to due process

According to Myjoyonline, he also mentioned that he had a conversation with the Chief of Staff, who attested to the fact that Ofori-Atta had formally notified him before to his departure.

“I have no doubt that he will come back in a fair amount of time. He would make himself available if anything has to be looked into,” Afenyo-Markin promised.

He added that in order to resolve any misconceptions and secure Ofori-Atta’s participation with investigations, he would communicate with the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
