President-elect John Dramani Mahama has named a 10-member transitional team to oversee Ghana’s power transfer following his election victory.
The appointments adhere to the Presidential transition regulatory acts, which mandate the establishment of a transition team to facilitate a seamless political handover.
Mahama appoints diverse transition team
The announcement, made by Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), highlights the team’s composition of seasoned professionals from diverse sectors, including governance, finance, and public administration.
“H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President-elect of the Republic of Ghana, has, in accordance with the provisions of the presidential regulatory acts, appointed the following personalities as members of the 2024 Transition Team,” Gyamfi stated. He emphasized the team’s objective of working closely with representatives of the outgoing government to ensure a smooth transfer of power.

According to thechronicle, the transition team will be co-chaired by Hon. Julius Debrah, with other key members including Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, and Dr. Callistus Mahama, who will also serve as Secretary to the Transition Team. Other members are Dr. Valerie Sawyer, Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi, Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, Hon. Goosie Tanoh, and Edward Omane Boamah.
In addition, President-elect Mahama has nominated Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho as a member of the Transitional Advisory Council, further bolstering the team’s leadership with his vast legislative experience.
Inauguration and objectives
The joint transition team will be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Their mandate includes coordinating the transfer of critical state assets, reviewing governance frameworks, and facilitating briefings between the outgoing and incoming administrations to ensure continuity.
The team’s appointment underscores Mahama’s emphasis on structured and professional governance as he prepares to assume office in January 2025.
