The victim, according to local news source JoyNews, was a client of an Accra-based gold jeweller. It was stated that he had taken out over 6 million Ghanaian cedis in cash. Because of this, the attackers were well-prepared and carried out the heist precisely, making him a prime target. As the gunmen approached the parked car with their weapons drawn, witnesses on the scene reported a chaotic situation. They instantly fired some warning shots into the air, sending vendors and customers running for shelter.

Myjoyonline states that one witness, who wished to remain anonymous out of concern for reprisals, stated, “There was panic everywhere.” People were rushing in all directions and yelling. I tried to avoid being seen by hiding behind a market stall.

People nearby dove behind everything they could find as the sound of gunfire reverberated through the packed market, including surrounding cars and market stalls. Others fled for their life, leaving behind their belongings and a scene of overturned tables and strewn fruit. Unfazed by the confusion, the bandits hurried inside the Toyota. They were observed taking big bags of cash—possibly belonging to the victim—out of the car.

According to witnesses, the gunmen kept shooting into the air in an attempt to keep the situation under control. They quickly packed the suitcases into their getaway car, which had been parked close by, after securing the money. The masked attackers quickly fled, leaving a path of fear and bewilderment in their wake.

Soon after the robbers left, police arrived on the scene, but the attackers had already made their getaway. Since then, authorities have begun looking into the incident and are trying to find the people responsible. Although there were no reported injuries during the robbery, the event has sparked worries about local security.
